DIY GUIDE
So, you've acquired your beautiful slate tiles — now what?  Follow these step-by-step instructions for a successful slate tile installation project:
Preparation for Laying Slate Tiles:
1.	Clean Slate:  Begin by washing all the slate tiles with water only. Avoid using soap or cleaning materials, as they can affect the adhesion of the tile cement. Use a bucket or wheelbarrow for convenience and a brush or orange bag for scrubbing.
2.	Sort and Dry:  Sort the slate tiles according to thickness and allow them to dry in the sun. This step ensures uniformity and proper adhesion during installation.
3.	Seal the Slate:  Apply a layer of water-based sealer to the top side of each slate tile using a paint roller. This sealer acts as a protective barrier, preventing cement water from being absorbed and making cleanup easier after installation.
4.	Begin Tiling:  Start laying the tiles, beginning with the thickest ones first. Ensure proper spacing between tiles using spacers:
200 x 200 tiles:  6mm spacers
300 x 300 tiles:  8mm spacers
400 x 400 tiles:  8mm spacers
5.	Apply Tile Cement:  Use ordinary tile cement and add 500ml of bonding liquid per bag of tile cement. This enhances the adhesive properties of the cement, ensuring a strong bond between the tiles and the substrate.
6.	Keep It Clean:  Ensure that the tiled area remains clean throughout the installation process. Wash with water only, avoiding the use of any cleaning materials. Prevent cement and grout from drying on the slate tiles.
7.	Allow to Dry:  Leave the tiled area to dry properly for at least one day before proceeding with further steps.
8.	Seal Again:  Once the tiles are installed, use a paint roller to apply another layer of water-based sealer. Avoid using a paintbrush, as it may leave streaks on the slate. Never use an oil-based sealer, as it may peel off later.
9.	Multiple Layers:  For enhanced protection and shine, apply 1-3 layers of sealer after installing the tiles. Allow 1-2 hours between each layer for proper drying.
Follow these guidelines diligently for a flawless slate tile installation.
Enjoy the timeless beauty and durability of your newly installed slate tiles for years to come.
